“Your mom and Gabe took all of my heels away. My heels aren’t just shoes to me. They’re what makes me, me. It puts me up on a level playing field with everyone else, it helps me to feel like I can be beautiful and confident and just… well, something more than what everyone thinks I am. Nothing,” she murmured to him, watching him tie her shoes. “Gabe never told me that the heels scared him because of what happened to Donna, he just got mad at me for getting upset, but he never asked why I was upset.
