Nathaniel raised his eyebrows “I see…” He didn’t seem to understand how that was possible but decided not to argue. 

“I’ve been spending time with Amelie for a while now. I love her like she’s my own,” she told Nathaniel sincerely. “And I want to be the best that I can be. For both of them. And ..” She stopped thinking of peanut. “ I will be better than mom,” she asserted. Nathaniel gaped at her then observed the little girls on either side of him in thought.

Kat looked between Gabe and Sophia, then tilted her head to the side. “Daddy,” She said slowly, glancing at Amelie, who nodded after she talked. “And momma.”
Amelie grinned and leaned over Nathaniel to kiss Kat’s cheek. “That’s right.”
Gabe took a deep breath and grinned, then wiped at his eyes quickly. “That’s right, baby. Momma and daddy.”
